Discover Ladywalk Reserve

A Reedbed Refuge in the Heart of the Middle Tame Valley (125 acres)

About Ladywalk Reserve

Ladywalk is owned by E.ON and leased to the West Midland Bird Club, who manage the reserve. It lies within the Middle Tame Valley, a significant regional wildlife corridor, and was formed from flooded gravel workings.

Its standout feature is an expansive reedbed, now a flagship habitat both for the reserve and the wider region. Ladywalk is recognised nationally as one of the best sites in the UK to observe wintering Eurasian Bittern.

Additional habitats include:

  • Birch and Alder woodland, attracting winter finch flocks

  • Open lagoons and wetland margins

  • A diverse mosaic of vegetation providing year-round interest

Other notable species include Water Rail, Hobby (a frequent summer visitor), and a wide variety of wetland and woodland birds throughout the year.
